To become a skilled pottery artist is like saying you want to be a mason. Apart from basic soil selection and application, understanding proportion, aesthetics, and control of pottery form, knowledge in chemistry and physics are also required.
Artist Huang Tsun Ren
From the previous article, I had shared about background and achievement of Artist Huang Tsun Ren and his journey of creations. He is one of the Taiwanese’s outstanding and talented ceramic artist that I am personal very admired him.His works mostly include Tenmoku and Zen tea ware. For this article, I would like to share specifically on his Tenmoku Glazed (天目) .

極星
Polaris /ផូឡារិស: is the matt purpose glazed with magnet Oil drop feature.
秋禾
Autumn Grain/ ឈៀវហឺរ: The oil Drop layer and color of autumn theme.
玄青
Magic Black/ ស៊ីនឈីង: is a type of 烏金釉 or Black Tenmoku glazed that look deep black with numberous of small white dot like a star in the universe inside its silver rim.
The analysis and understanding of glaze color, the control of the firing process, and the temperature curve and atmosphere changes within the kiln are all essential to success.
斑斕
Fired Eye-Ball: this glazed is also ” 斑斕 ” and you may notice that the glaze have bright color that in the middle look like the black eye ball with surrounding fired.

Bright-Colored /ប៉ានឡាន: is the bright and colorful glazed that you might find the similar concept of artist Huang’s pieces under the same name. This 斑斕/ BanLan has got purple Rim with bright green detial.

Bright Color /ប៉ានឡាន: This is also ” 斑斕 ” with purple rim and it has detail of bright and colorful in Yellow with slightly green background.
The artist must have an understanding in all relating aspects. The entire procedure is like a spiritual practice that requires immense patience and perseverance.

銀青禾斑
Silver-Green Grain Spot / ដំណក់ប្រេងពណ៌បៃតងចាំងប្រាក់: This types of glazed have got brown rim, the detail inside can be more green or more orange, but this one has more green with some orange fur. There are also silver lightening that reflex inside this piece.
斑斕
Bright Color /ប៉ានឡាន: This is also ” 斑斕 ” with purple rim and it has detail of bright yellow drop with more green feature.
斑斕琥珀
Bright Amber /ពណ៌លឿងខ្ជី: This Piece has got bright yellow feature with purple rim. For me, this glazed look very elegant .
This journey is like completing a mission entrusted by ancestors, filled with difficulties and challenges that are worthy of artistic strive and effort.

Grand Red /ហឺរហុង: This piece have red oil drop features with slightly deep green detail.
火痕
Fired Marked / ស្នាមអគ្គី: This is one of rare type Tenmoku glazed from artist Huang. The feature of fur in dark grey color and purple-red at the edge of cup look like it is got burned.
